Mike Gartner collects his 500th career NHL assist as the New York Rangers post a 7-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins to become the first player in NHL history to get his 500th goal, 500th assist, 1000th point, and 1000th NHL game all in the same season. A truly remarkable achievement. Mike Gartner finished his NHL career with 708 goals, 627 assists, 1335 points in 1432 games. Gartner ranks #31 in NHL all-time points and 7th on the NHL’s all-time goals scored list, two ahead of Alexander Ovechkin and 9 goals behind Phil Esposito. Mike Gartner began his career with the Washington Capitals and would later play for the Minnesota North Stars, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Phoenix Coyotes.
