February 9, 1984 Gilbert Perreault 700th NHL Career Assist. Buffalo Sabres Perreault racks up his 700th N.H.L. career assist as the Sabres win 8-5 over the New Jersey Devils, at the Auditorium in Buffalo.

Perreault was one third of the famous French Connection Line, and arguably one of the most underrated players on the top one hundred list of All-Time Greats. He had speed to burn and a bow legged stride to his skating that befuddled defenders, He would skate down center ice with the puck on his stick in what the opposition thought was full flight and just as he reached an opposing player he would find another gear and shift into overdrive.

The Buffalo Sabres led by the Dynamic “French Connection Line”, reached a pinnacle when in 1975 they advanced to the Stanley Cup Final Against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Sabres fell in six games to the Flyers that year in what was one of the most bizarre series ever played. Game 3 at the Aud in Buffalo was played in a bed of fog and was frequently interrupted so that the players could skate around in an effort to lift the fog. The game went into overtime and in the extra frame Perreault emerged from the fog in full flight and wired a hard pass to Rene Robert on his right side, Robert reacted on instinct and ripped a laser to the short side of Bernie Parent and just like that game 3 was over, 5-4 Buffalo.
