May 4, 2000
This Day In Hockey History May 4, 2000. Keith Primeau of the Philadelphia Flyers scores his first playoff goal as a Flyer at 12:01 of the 5th overtime period in the third-longest game in NHL history and the longest game in 64 years as the Philadelphia Flyers won 2-1 at Pittsburgh, in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.
Philadelphia would bow out in the next round of the playoffs in a seven-game thriller against the New Jersey Devils, after holding a commanding 3-1 series edge. The New Jersey Devils would win the 2000 Stanley Cup that year, defeating the previous year’s Stanley Cup Champion Dallas Stars in seven games, to clinch the franchise’s second Championship.
I grew two playoff beards during that game.
