Backyard ice rink kits Canada
With the Covid-19 Pandemic wreaking havoc across the country and people isolating themselves from one another, many people are forced to develop ingenious ways to occupy themselves during the winter months. With nearly everything on lockdown, what can people do if they cannot access their local skating rink due to pandemic restrictions?
Many people have decided that if they can no longer go to the nearest skating facility for family recreation, they’ll bring the rink home.
Backyard rink kits in Canada have become quite popular this year, and several kits are available to help you achieve your dream backyard ice rink. Here we will explore how to make a backyard rink and some options for backyard ice rink kits (Canada).
Steps to building a backyard rink
- Inspect the surface: Choose a flat area free of slopes and shady to minimize melting.
- Clear the area: To prevent the ice from cracking, shoveling down the dirt or grass is necessary.
- Line the rink: Use a plastic liner to contain the water; this will also help keep the water in and level.
- Build a base: For the first flood, use cold water starting at the lowest point and allow the water to build until the entire area is level. Then let it be until the area has frozen solid.
- Hot Water: Use hot water for every subsequent flood. You should apply hot water once a day, using only enough water to cover the ice in gradual layers thinly; this will help each layer bond to the other. Using this method, it should take about one week for the ice to build up to two to three inches, enough for skating.
- Maintenance: Shovel the rink as needed and apply water when necessary.
Top Ice Rink Kit (My Opinion)
EZ ICE 60-minute Backyard Rink is, in my opinion, the best in the business. It’s easy to assemble, durable, and comes in many sizes. These kits are made of high-density, durable plastics as NHL boards. They are designed to withstand the hardest slapshots.
What are the dimensions of the boards?
Each straight EZ ICE board is 16” tall x 60” (5ft) long x 1.5” wide. EZ ICE boards are perfect for keeping the puck within the rink while allowing for easy 60-minute assembly.
How far do the red brackets extend beyond the boards
The red brackets extend 15” beyond the boards and are placed every 5 feet at the intersection of each board. EZ ICE brackets are 4” wide, allowing them to be incredibly sturdy and very easy to store in the summer.
How thick are the liners?
All of our liners are made from 6 mil bright white poly. EZ ICE liners are strong enough to stand up to sticks and pucks even at sub-freezing temperatures. Our ultra-white liners ensure your rink freezes faster than nearby ponds or lakes!
Do the liners have the EZ ICE logo on them?
EZ liners are solid white and do not have a logo on them. The logo in the pictures is just for fun on our website.
How long do EZ ICE Rinks last?
EZ ICE Rinks are engineered from the highest quality materials. Besides the liner, all components should last 10 years or more. EZ liners typically last 1 to 3 years, but most customers choose to replace their liner each winter.
Can I make my current rink bigger or smaller?
EZ Rinks are easy to expand in future years (see above for more info). Making your rink smaller is as simple as removing boards and brackets until you reach your desired dimensions. EZ ICE straps can be easily shortened like the straps on a backpack.
