Patrick Roy makes history March 22, 2003
March 22, 2003, As the Colorado Avalanche, nicknames him, Saint Pat became the first goalie in NHL history to win 30 games 13 times in his career. He and his Colorado Avalanche defeated the visiting Chicago Blackhawks 8-1 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
I’m sure that the Colorado Avalanche netminders milestone greatly disturbed Jeremy Roenick. Still, it didn’t bother Patrick any as he could not “hear anything that Jeremy has to say because he has his two Stanley Cups plugging his ears.”
Saint Pat Won four Stanley Cups, two with the Montreal Canadians and two with the Colorado Avalanche.
In 2004 he was selected as the greatest goalie in NHL history by 41 writers and a fan poll. His Number #33 has been retired by both of his teams. On November 13, 2006, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Roy is widely known as the master of the butterfly style, making it popular among aspiring goaltenders.
