This Day In NHL Hockey History February 27, 1984. Paul Coffey became the first Oiler’s defenseman to score 100 National League goals, and two assists as Edmonton tied a team record with its 8th consecutive win a 6-5 overtime win against the Jets at Winnipeg.

Born June 1, 1961, in Weston, Ontario, Canada. Paul Douglas Coffey was a 6th overall pick by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1980 Entry Draft. Coffey played for nine teams over the course of his 21-year career. Coffey was a superb skater, reminiscent of Doug Harvey and Bobby Orr, Coffey could dazzle you with end to end rushes and cutting through the opposition like a hot knife through butter, all the while making it look effortless. Coffey holds or shares 33 NHL records in the regular season and playoffs.
